What is Shatavari?

Shatavari is a medicinal herb which is very much common in Ayurveda. It belongs to the asparagus family and is known for its health benefits. Shatavari has an ability to help in women’s health and make overall health strong.

The main part of this plant is its roots which are first collected, cleaned and then dried. Dried Shatavari root has many natural compounds potent for medicinal use and long shelf life.

Shatavari roots are consumed for many causes like making digestion better, balancing hormones, boosting immunity and supportive reproductive health. In traditional remedies, this herb is taken as capsules, powder, and decoction.

How is Shatavari cultivated?

Shatavari is cultivated from its seeds or from its root cuttings. It grows well in a warm and humid climate with partial shade and regular watering. The ground is prepared with organic compost to encourage growth. It needs strong weed control to promote healthy root development.

After almost a year, the roots become ready to be harvested. The plants are then uprooted and the roots are collected and dried under controlled conditions.
