What is Matcha Tea?

Matcha tea is a finely ground powder made from green tea leaves. It is native to the country of Japan.  Matcha’s ability to give a calm effect make it valued to all.

The process begins with shading tea plants weeks before harvest. As a result, this increases more chlorophyll and gives it its vibrant green color. The leaves are hand-picked, steamed, dried, and deveined before being ground into a powder.

In traditional stone mills, the dried leaves are processed into a fine powder. Matcha is whisked with hot water to make tea. It can also be added to lattes, desserts, and smoothies.

How is Matcha Tea cultivated?

Matcha tea is grown with special care in Japan. The tea plants are shaded with bamboo matting weeks prior to harvest. Chlorophyll levels rise as a result, giving the leaves their rich green color.

Farmers hand-pick just the youngest, tenderest leaves. These leaves are quickly steam-cooked to retain their flavor and nutrients. After steaming, the leaves are dried and carefully kept.

The dried leaves are deveined and stemmed to produce pure tencha. Stone mills grind Tencha into a fine powder. Premium matcha tea is made with this powder.
